- Sunstone provides safe, structured housing for people living with substance use disorder while working closely with them to rebuild their lives as stable, productive adults. Assisting residents in developing healthy routines is our top priority, with the ultimate goal of restoring enjoyment and happiness to their lives.
As a startup company; Sunstone was in need of a full identity. When the president and founder of the company came to us, they didn’t have a name yet and wanted our assistance with that and a tagline. The 3 founders of the company are all very versed in the field of recovery housing, so they had a vision. With that as the foundation, we set to work to build them a strong brand that included a logo, color palette, brand book, etc.
In addition to brand strategy, we worked closely with the team to develop a comprehensive visual identity. This would include a WordPress website that showcased the vision of Sunstone’s core values and mission of transforming the recovery housing experience. They also required guidance on social media and email marketing.
Working with the core team, we created a comprehensive list of potential company names we felt encompassed their vision. Once the name, Sunstone, was chosen a list of prospective taglines that aligned with their name and their mission was presented. It was agreed that 3 key words would be the best fit and we landed on Direction, Support and Independence.
With the Sunstone name chosen, we began our work on the logo. The group asked that we closely tie the Sunstone name with an icon that would be easy to recognize and could stand alone. We presented a dozen initial concepts and were given excellent feedback. Collaborating directly with the team we did a few variations from the initial set. Soon after we had the logo approved.
The color palette needed to be colorful yet balanced. Both warm and cool hues were combined to create this colorful yet not overwhelming palette. Feelings of being surrounded by a comforting blue sky and a nurturing sun are immediately evoked by this very down-to-earth color scheme.
The photo choices/style fit well with the theme of Sunstone and used their color palette to create a warm and welcoming look and feel to both landscape and lifestyle photography. We incorporated various patterns to pull everything together. A comprehensive brand book was designed to share with partners and media.
The Communications Director asked that we design custom posters that could be framed and hung in each of the 12 units. We created six large posters using beautiful landscape photography that we “sunstone-ized” with their color palette and included motivational phrases on each.
After working with the director and president to establish a solid site map, we provided the group with wireframes and color comps of the proposed designs. These were quickly approved and we began the development process immediately. The WordPress website includes a blog section and well as details of the Sunstone mission and process. There is a virtual tour of the campus as well as an area that contains their policies for easy reference. We’ve set it up so people can easily and quickly make donations to this wonderful non-profit.
